Pennsylvania man missing after being charged with 8th DUI

A 48-year-old man is on the lam after being charged an eighth time for drunk driving. The Pennsylvania resident didn't meet with his probation officer at the scheduled time, so police are considering him to be a fugitive. The latest DUI charge came last month after police allegedly spotted the vehicle in which he was driving making an illegal turn.

The cop who stopped the vehicle said there was an indication the driver had been drinking. But the suspect refused to perform a sobriety test at the scene. The officer said he arrested the accused anyway based on his experience, observations and training.

A police check of the man's records showed that his driver's license was suspended due to DUI offenses he had incurred in the past -- the first being in 1991. In fact, the accused apparently would not be eligible for a license until 2046, when he would be in his late 70s. After his latest arrest, the man was released on an order to appear in court at a later date, but a warrant was issued for his arrest after failing to make an appointment with his probation officer.

A DUI charge in Pennsylvania comes with potential life-altering consequences. The individual could face time in jail, lost employment, sky-high insurance premiums and even a permanent mark on a criminal record. An experienced criminal defense attorney can work to protect a client's legal rights while fighting for an optimal result given the circumstances presented. Sometimes that means fighting the formal accusations at trial while other times a carefully negotiated plea agreement may produce the best possible outcome.
